MAYOR LEFFINGWELL INVITES COMMUNITY TO TAKE SHORT SURVEY ABOUT VOLUNTEERING
Feedback from survey will assist in development of volunteer initiatives to service the community
AUSTIN, TX – Mayor Lee Leffingwell is asking Austinites to share their insights and opinions on volunteering to develop more effective resources. By filling out a short online survey, community members will impact the creation of programs that support local causes and organizations.
This survey is part of efforts led by Chief Service Officer Sly Majid to increase volunteerism across the city. According to findings in “Volunteering in America,” a report from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the National Conference on Citizenship, Austin’s volunteer rate dropped to 24 percent in 2010, ranking the city 41st among the 51 largest U.S. cities.
“Austin offers a wide variety of benefits to its citizens, and it is our responsibility to give back and ensure our community remains a great place to live. We have such a talented and diverse population that can enact real and lasting change. My office would like your input on how we can support your efforts in doing so,” says Mayor Leffingwell.
Community members can complete the survey, here. The survey will close on Friday, June 28, 2013.
Using the survey results, the City of Austin aims to make it easier for Austinites to learn about community issues and find opportunities to get involved. Resources developed through the Mayor’s Office will also provide support to nonprofits and community organizations to strengthen their volunteer programs.
This survey is part of the Cities of Service volunteer initiative out of Mayor Lee Leffingwell’s office.
